When I try to create a project it comes up with the message:
Please create the project on the plugin’s supported OS.
I have the project name in the left hand box.
debian is the only option in the drop down next to it.
and when I click on New Project it gives me the above message.
You are trying to create the new project on the Ubuntu machine correct? If you can’t get that to work, you can easily download the premade projects and use one of those. We are still working on gathering the Lucid files for it’s premade project but it should be ready shortly.
Raymond, you’ll have to create your project on the Debian machine. If keryx won’t start, try running it in the terminal so you can see any errors. Then post the errors here, on the forums, or report a bug on Launchpad.
It’s interesting to see a program like this..
It will help a lot of people who don’t have any internet connection..
And, could you tell me how to do it without GUI environmenti?
Because I’m trying to install an Ubuntu Server with text based installation by default..
How can I install the desktop without internet connection?
Is there an error message given on Windows 7 for you? If you didn’t get an error message, can you open up the command prompt and run Keryx from there to see what it outputs? Are you using 32bit or 64bit?

thanks for the reply. No, there are no error messages. When I run Keyrx it just shows me the command prompt and then closes down. I tried to open it many times, but still and I tried it in another computer also Windows 7 and also it didn't work. I am using 32 bit. Thanks.
Hmmm, double checked and it runs fine on my 64bit Win7. Do you happen to have admin permissions? If so you could try running Keryx from source (source/keryx.py) after installing Python 2.5 and wxPython (for version 2.5). If you do that, then whatever error is causing Keryx to crash will show and we can figure out how to fix it for you.
Thanks chris for your help and patience. I did what you said and it is working..!!!! But still the the application in the win32 folder is not working. Anyways, thanks very much..!!! You fixed my problem.
When I start keryx in windows, it loads and download the lists from repositories just fine. But then it displays no packages at all. From the command prompt, there are tons of error message, each one saying :
XXX lineno: 322, opcode :52 Unable to open file: unknown opcode
Are you using a specific locale or anything? I've never come across this error before and Googling around didn't find me much either. What servers are you using? 32 bit or 64 bit? Anything other errors or unique things about your environment you are running this on?
And I just received that same opcode error as you did. I'm looking into it tonight and hopefully will be able to figure it out and post a patched version soon. Sorry about this!
I am using Linux Mint 9, x64 version. I used keryx in 2009 for a whole year without problem. It has helped me a great deal and was a huge reason I still use Linux at all. I'd go to an internet cafe / campus / office with high speed internet and download software then install them at home. No problem at all.
I recently installed Linux Mint 9. I am not sure about the locale but I can check if you'd tell me. I can tell you however that I set the location to : Indonesia. Language and Keyboard to : US English.
Now, when I tried to download updates two days ago. Sometimes I was able to do that. I downloaded 800 mb worth of updates and softwares including KDE and XFCE. But then I got that problem where no package was shown (running in Windows, in Linux its no problemo). Still don't know what I did wrong. I am going to try running keryx in windows, using the source code. Been having problem with downloading wxpython cos sourceforge is soooo slow.
Oh and I would like to thank you and the keryx development team for this wonderful piece of software. At least in this respect, debian-based is miles ahead of it's competitors. I always found it funny how Linux is often touted as “the OS” for poor country when you usually -need- high speed internet connection to have a great Linux experience.
From what I can tell so far since I got the problem, it appears to be something wrong with our binary code. Seems like running from source doesn't have any trouble but once it's compiled there are unexpected problems. Someone else today mentioned the issue to me so hopefully I can get this figured out quickly.
Hey Enavseo, so it seems that the issue is caused from using the different 32 and 64 bit builds. I think that we only built 32 bit ones and after testing, had no problems. It seems that some people are having issue with them. I've actually quit working on the current version because Keryx v1.0 is almost ready and should be done within the month! This new version I will have everything tested out, and different versions built so that we can handle this issue properly.
Thanks for the response, but the problem you talk about is on linux (ubuntu) machines, I have the problem running the win app in Windows 7 64b… Anyway I hope it will be solved in 1.0 version…

Try running Keryx from keryx.py in the source folder instead. The problem is that we haven't released our Linux 64bit binary yet (had some issues) but it works fine from source.
hallo.i just downloaded Keryx and its a realy great tool. congratulation for the amazing work.
i have ubuntu 10.04.
i must follow the same steps to create a project with a terminal window as you describe here http://crashsystems.net/2009/01/keryx-tutorial/ ?
i did download all the updates. tryed home to install packages, but i get a message all the time: “Failed to update the APT cache. Aborting installation”.

Glad that worked! We have had some trouble with the executables recently so we will look into getting those fixed up. Thanks for the feedback.

You need to run it first on an Ubuntu/Debian system. It will fetch some data. After that you can run it on a Windows system.

What Anon said, or download our premade projects and use them.

I follow the Tutorial, but when i select Install packages, nothing happens and the list remains empty…

Did Keryx download the packages already? I'm trying to think of what might cause that.

Hello, great tool, but sam problem as others with win32 app, no packages appear in the window. I use Windows 7 64b.
