Download

Latest (0.92.4)

1. Download the Keryx 0.92.4 zip, or Keryx 0.92.4 tar.gz: each contains files to run on Windows and Linux.

2. After downloading, take a look at the Keryx tutorial.

The following steps are optional

3. Don’t have time to create a project on your offline computer? Download the pre-made projects and extract them into the keryx directory on your flash drive. They will work with Ubuntu 8.04, 9.04, and 9.10.
4. If you found Keryx useful, please consider helping us out by donating. Thanks!

If for some reason the download links are broken, or if you want to download a previous release or the source code, you can find them all hosted on our launchpad.net download page.

  • Pero no encuentro el link para descargar Keryx...
  • Es genial la idea de descargar los repositorios, tengo acceso a Internet en el trabajo, pero no en mi casa.

Thank you for the response Chris! Arrange it! Other one asks: is it possible to add to the sources list the repositories of medibuntu?
  • No problem :) If you just copy the lines from this page into your current sources.list it will work just fine.

http://www.medibuntu.org/sources.list.d/lucid.list for lucid and you can replace the name with hardy, karmic, etc for the other ones.
  • Adq5
Thank you Chris!! I did not believe that it would be so easy!!. Regards!!

mi computadora utiliza proxy y keryx no logra conectarse a ningun repository ya configure el usuario y password y nada no se conecta

the lucid dependacies are the exact same files as karmic so just use those, i am.

    Hi Crhis!
I believe that I did not explain well. The problem is that using " pre-made proyect for Ubuntu Luciad 10.04 "I cannot find the majority of the things that I need to unload (ubuntu-restrictedextras, vlc, etc.). I cannot find it in the seeker of keryx. When it was using the project for Karmic this was not happening to myself.
Can it be a error of the project for Ubuntu 10.04? But I will have to return to install ubuntu 9.10. I will be grateful for a response to you.
    Thank you!

Excuse me for insisting, but how I edit the source list of the project for Lucid 32bits?
  • Hi, Andrés,
You can edit your project's sources by opening the project in Keryx, and then going to Project > Edit Sources. Uncomment the lines for the Universe and Multiverse repositories and save the changes. When you reload the project, ubuntu-restricted-extras should be available.
  • Hey Andrés,
Those packages are there, you just don't have the universe and multiverse repositories enabled. The projects come with the default repositories so you need to edit Sources.list and uncomment the lines for universe and multiverse and then reload the package list from the internet with Keryx and you should be good to go.

    Hi!

Please create a pre-made project for Ubuntu 10.4.
Full single file (for stable bandwidth) and a chunks/splitted files (for unstable/slower bandwidth).

    -am
  • We do have a 10.04 premade project which you can download here: http://edge.launchpad.net/keryx/stable/0.92/+do... It's included with the others for convenience.
  • Adq5
    Hello Chris!
I cannot find the "ubuntu-restricted-extras", "VLC", the plugins of flash, etc. with keryx. Can it be that it is absent something in " sources list "? I am using the project for Ubuntu 10.04.
    Regards!!
    Andrés from Argentine
  • Hey Andrés!

Make sure you have the multiverse and universe repositories enabled. You need both of those for the packages you mentioned.

Also the flashplugin package will not work. It tries to download files during installation and Keryx cannot do anything to change that. The package will fail to install because it cannot download the flash plugin. Sorry. :\

Excellent and great work like unetbootin. Hope to see the project for debian and mepis distributions. Again Thanks for the project.

  • Keryx will work with any distribution that uses APT already. We don't provide premade projects for them all, but you can use Keryx on Debian, Linux Mint, and (never tried) should work on Mepis as well if the files are in the same place for when you create the project. :)

Hey, that's what I had been looking for for years!!!

(I never understood why especially the linux folks with "their" philosophy don't keep all the millions of "offline-users" in mind. (Something like/) This tool should become standard in every distro!)

Thanks a lot!!! (...hope I get it to work ;-)

  • Hi, Reza!

There have been some problems with the Windows executables in 0.92.4. I would suggest running Keryx from source and seeing if the problem persists.

    Hi Dear Chris
i download keryx_0.92.4 and try run it in win vista x64 but all i got was a blak screen like command window wich u could not type anything in it. i had no trouble with the old version so maybe its my fault or i am wrong with something. please help me whats root of my problem?
    thank you.
  • @Jestin Glad you like it! :) We're trying our best.
  • Oh my God. I was searching for a tool like this for years. Its simply amazing. You people has done an excellent job. Thank you very much.
  • andrew
yo thanx bt lemme give it a try first,,i wanna start by disabling ma proxy
  • mac9416
    @andrew

The first error appears to be a problem with firewall or proxy configuration. Can you access that file with a web browser? If you don't use a proxy, try disabling any system settings enabling one. For example, if a proxy is enabled in Internet Explorer, Keryx may be trying to use that configuration.

The second error seems to show that you tried to add a plugin that didn't exist, and is not related to the first error.

  • @Andrés
Thanks a bunch for your spanish tutorial! It has really helped! :-) Also if gNewSense supports APT we should be able to get it working on there (if it doesn't already) without much trouble.
  • Andrés
    Hi Crhis!
It wanted know if Keryx 1.0 will support O.S. 100% free as gNewSense.
Apparently the tutorial I did went you of help to some users of Hispanic speech.
    Compliments!!
    Excuses for my English.

  • @Reza We plan on adding those features as soon as we can. Lately we have all been extremely busy with school and other things but those two ideas are definitely on our Todo list. We are hoping to get a rewrite done from scratch that would be more efficient and flexible.
  • Reza
    Dear Chris Oliver,
Thanks for your answer. I have some suggestions:
1- it would be nice if the program have some interface in Linux with some key that update the Linux from some previously updated project automatically.
2- when the list updated and we push the get updates key there is no abort or cancel key. In my region there is no fast internet access so it takes me a lot time to download it, and I know that I can download the files one by one but the problem is the files itself sometimes takes a lot of time.
    Thanks a lot.
  • Reza
    Hello

Thanks for all great works. You really did it.

I have a question: Is this program understand the situation?
I mean think about it I have laptop with fast Internet and PC with no Internet at all. Now I want update my PC Linux wich is mint Gloria wich is some kind of Ubuntu 9.04. I have no access to Internet so I cannot update my package manager. Ill do what u said in tutorial and making something for my PC Linux with the name test here. Then using my laptop and use Keryx. After updating my PC Linux will it get all mint updates (like security updates) and also update for installed programs?
    Sorry for my bad English.
    Thanks a lot.
  • @Reza - When you use the Get Updates button, Keryx will do its best to gather all packages which have newer versions available. As long as you have the repositories enabled for security updates, etc, it will grab the updates.
  • ktat
great work, I am in the process of downloading the updates on an xp machine at my local library and have encountered a small problem - occasionally the connection seems to drop out or slow right down, when I try to restart to fix problem I have to use system monitor to halt the program.

I have found that once restarted keryx picks up nicely where it left off, except for files that are partially downlaoded which need to be deleted before downloading again.

thanks again for a great and very useful piece of software.
  • @ktat - Keryx should be able to pickup where it left off. We have many changes planned, with a nice download manager as one of our largest priorities to make things smoother.
  • srahasan
    Dear Chris Oliver,

Pls provide the tutorial in English posted by Andres. It is great help for us.

    srahsan
  • @srahasan - Thanks for the idea! We will be making an english tutorial for the wiki in the coming week or two that will also be available in PDF for you. :-)
  • srahasan
    Dear Anres,
thanks for your tutorial but if it was in english then it is helpful for such user like me.

  • Cool! Thanks posting the link. :)

Nice one, keep up the good work
  • Currently we are focusing on delivering a streamlined version with 100% debian support and afterwards we are going to be branching out to other distros. You can however, take the debian plugin and work on building a rpm plugin if you like. We don't have any documentation on exactly how each plugin works so you will need to consult the comments in the actual code to do so.
  • Miss Teak
Is there a plugin (support) for Fedora?
  • Keryx 1.0 will be out in a while, we've all become quite busy now that school is back in session after the holidays.

As for TK, I personally think it is extremely ugly and wanted something a little better looking. We can build single file executables with wxWidgets and neither one of them are installed by default on Ubuntu. Building single file executables means that we can include wx, GTK, or whatever toolkit we decide upon for 1.0.
  • juancarlospaco
If you use Python-TK you dont need the WxWidgets Toolkit anymore, and Python-TK is built-in on Python itself

I'm very excited to find out about this project. It's going to make using Ubuntu a lot easier for people with limited connectivity.
  • Steve MacEwan
Happy New Year to everyone on the project. Installed on 8GB USB, Initialised offline, Installed needed programs and updates to USB online, Installed on 2 offline Ubuntu boxes. Now using Python to write a plugin to update a Mandriva box my friend has. Oh, and it worked with Debian as well. Brilliant. APTonCD does not come close although the ability to transfer installed progs comes in handy... Thanks guys... This makes life easier for people transferring from the insecure windows...
  • Thanks Andres! You too, I think we might try to release the Linux binary for New Years. :-)
  • Andres
    Happy new year Chris! Bye!!

This program is Grate. I wish ur future.

  • Brad:

Any chance that there will be a release for Solaris in the future?

We are going to be building a Linux single file executable that should run on anything. As long as you have Python and wxPython installed on Solaris though you can run Keryx from its python source. Or are you inquiring about having a Solaris backend to work with it's package management system?
  • Brad

it is good that a software like this is available.
if linux should be as good as windows is, then you should be able to install software as you wish like in windows. easy and straight forward.

using linux is still a challenge for a windows techie like me. think of the windows noobies.

  • Andrés:

Hi Chris! Congratulations on the program! One question: How can I download Ubuntu 9.10 repositories for Karmic Koala with Keryx logo. There any way to create a project for karmic. O The only possible on new version of the program. I’m from Argentina. Thank you! For those who do not have internet Keryx logo is the most convenient option to upgrade and install PRGRAM in linux. Greetings!
    Andrew!

If you follow the tutorial, you can run "python keryx.py --create debian" replacing with your own name. This will create a project and will work on any version of Ubuntu so you can use it on Karmic without having to use a default project.
  • Guys, am so glad about this software even if it took me several months to find it, it seems my problems to using linux ubuntu has come to an end.

I've not used it so far; am just downloading it but am so convinced of seeing successful results.

    Thank you.

hi! glad that i found this software..u see, here in the philippines..it's quite hard to have an internet access..and quite expensive. This program really helps a lot..being newbie to linux, it's quite hard to update through internet..luckily , i found out about keryx..Thanks
  • I think it is more of a linux thing. If you're writing software, there is no reason to have to download and maintain your software AND it's dependencies like GTK. The package systems in open source operating systems do very well at this. The only problem is that they have neglected those users who are offline for some reason. Our goal is to rectify this and hopefully get to the LiveCD where it would be readily available to solve everyone's problems when it comes to offline package management. :D
  • setonfire
Fantastic work! This is exactly what I required. I wonder why the guys at Ubuntu would not give up the repository structure and go for full-fledged .deb support. This dependency thing is really irritating. Ubuntu will go a long way if packages can simply be downloaded and installed bypassing the repository altogether.

Well, rants apart, great work! Thanks again!
  • You need to use two dashes
    python keryx.py --create wings debian

instead. If you're missing one then it will try to load the GUI interface and show this error.
  • jefrey Que
Hi im a i glad i've found a program like this one, since i have 3 more boxes that ive planed to convert, unfortunately they're all offline... anyway i downloaded keryx 0.92.3, followed the tutorial, issued this command on the terminal... and gave the error message.

    python keryx.py –create wings debian

    Loading config: /media/KINGSTON/keryx_0.92.3/linux/keryx.conf
    Traceback (most recent call last):

    import wx
    ImportError: No module named wx
    ineg@ineg-desktop:/media/KINGSTON/keryx_0.92.3/linux$

I tried selecting different mirror on software sources and repeat the process, but it turned me the same error message..
please what would i do now?
    thank you.
  • Pawan Neupane
Congratulations to the whole Keryx team on the new look of your site. Looking forward to the release of 1.0. Wish you all the best. :-)
